CONSERVATION CRICKETS

Our crickets are grown under the strictest conditions – they need to be! The Amphibian Research Centre is growing crickets to feed some of the world’s most critically endangered species. Our quarantine facility is protected from pests and diseases without the use of pesticides. We only use the highest-grade food possible and your crickets are treated with the same care as our own – we pack your crickets straight from the same boxes we use to feed our endangered frogs. There are many ways we make our crickets the best, you can learn more in our insect facilities pages.

They are typically over 60% protein and less than 15% fat. If its growth you are after for your youngsters, crickets are ideal. You can learn much more about food choices in our nutrition guides.

For more details about ordering, postage charges and delivery times, or advice, please read our guide to ordering insects.

Keep them in any smooth walled, tall plastic container. They need an open or very well ventilated lid. If the sides are smooth it will stop them climbing out. It is usually safe to say with a little experience most people will be able to keep crickets for about 2 weeks. After that they are prone to many issues that can be brought on by stress (e.g. cold temperatures) and they will likely begin to die, or at least will be less nutritious. We recommend buying your crickets fresh every two weeks to keep your food stock at its best.

Keep them in a warm area (20-30°C, 25-30°C is preferred) and away from excessive humidity. They can be fed any vegetables and fruits as well as some dry foods like grains, chicken, dog or cat pellets.

PLEASE – DO NOT REFRIGERATE: Crickets are a tropical species and will be killed by cold temperatures.
