Indigenous Names of Indigenous Frogs

Postby deano_melb » Wed Mar 11, 2015 9:15 am

Does anyone know the woiwurrung (or other Kulin nation language groups) names for our indigenous frogs.

My research has turned up some names that have been translated into a generic 'frog' but would be interested to know if there were more specific terms for different species/sub species.

Don't know about the languages in your area but here after living a number of years in remote indigenous communities I only ever got a generic name for frogs and specific names for only 4 species. Always got the impression it wasn't important to differentiate all the various species. Might possibly be much the same there.
