Hello,
I was thinking when making a custom background out of foam thought might be a good idea alot cheaper and you know what its made out of.
Using a lighter to make my patterns in the foam to give it a better look.
Just thinking adding ledges using another piece of foam glue it on and then put a couple of staples in it for more stronger support. then running over it with some of that water proof pond paint then it makes sure the staples wouldn't rust, but would they rust over time is the question im asking???
Dont want to epic fail because it wouldnt look good lol

Haha with foam backgrounds ur probably destined for a first time failure unless ur not using expanda foam, are u?
I reckon my next background attempt will be using slate/rock panels - up against the glass.
Check out this guy from youtube, he is showing how he sort of made his water dragon tank but i think u should get some tips off how he made his background.
He talks alot about the tank but there is one bit on how he did the background - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTENPSrp2bU
eastern water dragons are pretty cool too

use all sorts of different foam then cut then the the shapes i want and then cover it with a couple of layers of grout and start painting it whatever colour i want and finish with a non toxic sealer over the top so its totally water proof
should be adding a waterfall with it as well.
Seen it done in the aussie pythons DIY section. im going to give it a go see how it turns out.
