wierd movements

Postby Max » Tue Dec 23, 2008 4:58 am

Hi Guys I have a question about something wierd my frog has been doing.
She is a female southern brown tree frog and she also shares her enclosure with a male southern brown and a spotted marsh female I think. Anyway yesterday morning I noticed she was doing something strange like she was pulling her head back and forward or in and out and at the same time opening her mouth. I thought she was trying to throw up or something. She was also raising her right rear leg and rubbing it along her body. I've read that they sometimes shed their skin, but I have not seen them do this.
Can someone please explain?
Thanks Max.

Hi Max it sounds very much like shedding. They can really make some odd movements and they rub their "hands" over themselves to help remove the skin.

Yeah, that's shedding. The opening and closing of the mouth is her eating the skin as it is removed. It is a very cool process, and nothing is wasted.
