Central Vic (audio + photos)

Postby nonterra » Mon Sep 22, 2014 9:29 pm

Heard, saw and conquered these frogs near St Arnaud in central Victoria on the weekend.

In the audio I can hear 3 species, I think there's Crinia parinsignifera, Crinia signifera and Litoria ewingi. I took a photo of a couple too - Crinia probably too hard to tell between the two in Vic (C. signifer & C. parinsignifera)?

I couldn't get the audio to work on my phone but the frogs in the picture are a young Peron's Tree Frog (Litoria peroni) and a Southern Brown Tree Frog (Litoria ewingii). It is difficult to distinguish the Crinia by appearance but the calls are quite distinct in either species.
