Spotted frog on Town Common, Townsville

Postby Malcolm » Mon May 26, 2014 12:26 pm

I have a reasonable knowledge of birds and invertebrates but don’t know much about frogs and I couldn’t spot this one on http://frogs.org.au/frogs/ofQld/The_Mid-Tropics
I saw it on Townsville’s Town Common yesterday, on the path near one of the lagoons. It was about 30mm long. ID help will be gratefully received.

Hi Malcolm,

Unfortunately your frog is a young Cane Toad. They can be quite colourful when they are younger.

How embarrassing!
I must never have seen one at this age. I know them as little and near-black, and as old and grey-green-khaki, but those reddish spots and eyebrows had me fooled.

Thanks,
Malcolm
