Silly question

Postby Banjo » Mon Sep 17, 2007 9:45 am

I went for a bit of a search yesterday and found a fairly large spotted marsh frog under a rock along with a few juv garden skinks, and it got me wondering... do spotted marshies or other bigger frogs (well bigger than eastern common froglets) prey on garden skinks?

Yes, they would. But skinks are quite fast, so the frog has to be on game!

There is a very well known photo by Ken Griffiths of a Green Tree Frog eating a Bandy Bandy snake. I think Spotted Marsh Frogs are also well known for eating snakes.

makes sense, Spotted Marshies arn't the quickest off the mark. I've seen a pic of a preserved green tree frog eatting a keelback which was amazing! I'll have to have a google search for the bandy-bandy one.
cheers for the quick response.

I don't think spotted marsh are large enough to eat garden skinks, but certainly larger frogs would if they can catch them.

I reckon a big female would easily be able to eat a smaller garden skink. Just depends on whether she thinks she can.
